RAYMOND HAPAI: DLPOA CHIEF OF OPERATIONS
After over 20 years as the Chief of Operations for DLPOA, Ray Hapai will not be returning next year.
When our previous C.O. Ken Younger retired, he recommended Ray to me. I was President at that time and the Board approved his appointment and his subsequent renewals for over 20 years. During his tenure, Ray successfully installed an easily navigated website (not the current “member portal”), computerized the membership renewals, and designed membership cards to insure membership-only admission to the beach. He also timely prepared the yearly Board election materials and formatted the newsletters for printing. He and his wife Sharon regularly responded to member inquiries by phone or email. All of this work -- which is year-round -- eventually required him to curtail other clients and handle DLPOA full-time.
Ray was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. He obtained a degree in Accounting and Business Administration from California State University at Long Beach. After 29 years working with the U.S. Postal Service, he established his own accounting and tax preparation firm in 1971. He purchased Ken Younger’s accounting business in 2005 and began with DLPOA that year. He leaves DLPOA October 31 when his current contract expires.
I am sorry to see him go. He understood the requirements of the Association and provided the Board with solid reasoning as to what was possible -- and advisable -- concerning operational choices. Cordial and unflappable, with wisdom shaped by the demands of DLPOA, he will be a tough act to follow. Aloha, Ray and Sharon.
