DLPOA Cardboard Regatta Rules
Create your boat out of cardboard and duct tape for this race around a buoy and back. Build boats in advance and bring your boat and a paddle to the main gate area for registration at 2pm.
Kids 13 and under
- 1-2 team members per boat.
- If you have 2 team members, the race must begin and end with the 2–person crew intact.
Adults and Kids 14+
- 1 participant per boat.
General Rules
- Participants will start from the beach and may receive a push from one on-shore team member.
- Participants will navigate around the buoy and return back to the beach.
- Bring your own paddle (boat, kayak, paddleboard or homemade.)
- A life vest is recommended.
- Prizes will be given in categories such as: 1st Place, Most Creative, Titanic Award - most spectacular sinking.
Boat Design and Construction
- Boats can be pre-made at home.
- Boats must be made only of cardboard and duct tape.
- Cardboard cannot be sealed with any paint or sealants. Absolutely, NO use of the following items: paint, tar based substances, varnishes, fiberglass resin, epoxy glue.
- Duct tape may be of varying colors for creativity!
- Boat design is up to the builder. Let your imagination come to life. Use of colored paper, crayons, and markers to color your boat is permitted.
- Boats must be built to allow crew to remain fully on top of or inside the vessel (no dangling extremities.)
- Boats must be propelled by the use of a paddle.
- No surfboard style boat is allowed. (Must be a boat, not a paddleboard.)
